Normal women treat themselves to retail therapy at Saks and a new pair of shoes. I, in my twisted desires, get excited by a trip to Lowes (despite the ridiculous frequency of my visits) and treat myself to an electronic staple gun.
I don't know about you but those manual ones kill my hands. Not sure why I waited so long because this is clearly worth its price tag of $50.
First project was to turn the Ikea Ung Drill frame into something useful.
I took out the glass and cardboard backing, cut a piece of screening to fit and stapled it in place.
Amazingly, I didn't staple into my finger once!!
For now its functioning as a earring holder
but the plan is to mount it in my office, get some hooks into and it and use it to hold the office supplies I need most often like scissors, etc. I'd like to keep as uncluttered a desk as possible. I just need to find the right kind of hooks/jars.
Hmm...but looking at this, perhaps I should have used pegboards instead? I think I'll try it with the screen and see how it holds up.
I actually purchased the staple gun for a totally different, non home decor related project but it will also come in handy when my fabric from Spoonflower arrives and I can upholster the guestroom chair seat. In case you're wondering, I scraped the paisley pattern I posted Friday in favor of this which I think will work better in the room as a quirky surprise.
What do you think?
(loose translation in french : please be seated)
As a collector of little chairs...I love this fabric!
ReplyDeletehahaha - i laughed when i saw you get your reatil theraphy from Lowes - i totally understand! i bought a sewing machine this weekend and was beyone excited :o) love the idea of turning the frame into something else - perhaps putting blackboard paint in the centre & using it as a place to leave/make notes?
ReplyDeleteI love it, and the screening on the frame brilliant, I love a good staple gun.
ReplyDeletei love the chair fabric!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the frame! And I can't wait to see your chair when it's finished!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your office come together!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I hear ya. The Hubs and I will plan a hawt Friday night....and it's centered around a trip to Lowe's or HD.
Oh and I really like the whimsical French design for the chair fabric. Reminds me of a chic little boutique.
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror idea. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI would totally buy that chair fabric! Speaking of fabric -- I started to put together a post this weekend (not up yet...laptop was temporarily "reassigned" to the mister) on turning Ung into a bulletin board with funky fabric. But I think your screen idea works even better...lets the frame stand out more. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteI love my electronic staple gun. And I usually always ask for handywoman gifts for xmas and birthdays. Tools are cool! Love the fabric, it's refreshing.
ReplyDeleteLisa & Alfie

ReplyDeleteOh you have done an amazing job on your brownstone. I wish GA had them. Found your blog through someone else???
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find your gorgeous black post card display rack?
The postcard rack was a gift from a friend - it came from Pottery Barn. I don't think they sell it anymore but Im sure you can find it on ebay.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea!
ReplyDeleteGirl + Staple Gun = endless decor possiblities!
That is a totally brilliant use for the frame.
