Today I'm starting the 'Favorite Nook' series I mentioned last week. To kick it off is the uber gorgeous Paloma of La Dolce Vita. Her blog features a number of great guest series (some of which she has invited me to participate in) - so it's no surprise that she was the inspiration that got me to invite some of my favorite bloggers to share here. Enough about me, lets see her space...

I am thrilled to be sharing my favorite nook with you on Brooklyn Limestone today. I work from home and while work and blogging keep me cooped up in my home office most of the day, I would have to say that my favorite nook in my home is our family room. It is the place where I get to hang out and relax with my husband, Fabian and our puppy, Tate in the evenings and where we entertain our family and friends as well.
My coffee table is stacked with interior design books and magazines. Although I love my bowl of starfish, I usually have to put it up on a bookshelf because my puppy, Tate seems to think that it is a bowl full of treats. I took these pictures a little while back and there are even more books now!
Last year, my husband and I completely made over the chairs in the background. We think they were from the 1950s. We removed the dingy powder blue velvet they were covered in, painted them, and had them reupholstered in a more modern, graphic fabric.
My Suzanne Kasler Quatrefoil Lamp is one of my favorite pieces in the room.
I also adore my Penguin Classics Collection and get a lot of compliments on them. I like that they add color to the room without being too obvious.
My design style is more masculine in a sense. I prefer darker palettes and am not one for over-the-top girly details, but I always have to add a touch of glamour to every room. In our family room, a pair of mercury glass candlesticks and a starburst mirror do the trick!
I am all about the balance of masculine and feminine design sensibilities, so I think this vintage seltzer bottle from the 50s and strong “C” typeset letter from Anthropologie round out the fireplace vignette perfectly.
My favorite "accessory" in the room would definitely have to be my sweet Tate, who likes to play with his toys in the family room whenever he isn’t sleeping under my chair in the office.
Thank you, S for inviting me to participate in this wonderful series!

ReplyDeleteLove Paloma's blog and I LOVE her puppy! I have two cockapoos also. They're the best. I've been debating getting the letter A from Anthropologie for quite some time but just haven't. Looks great on her mantel!
ReplyDeleteOn another note - does every design blogger have a copy of the Domino book on their coffee table? I know I do! Hah.

Nice nook! I think Paloma was the first person (that I read) to mention the Penguin Classics - "back then," they were only available through a Canadian book dealer.

Super cute nook! Love the accessories! and Tate is a cutie. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour space is beautiful and I was pleasantly surprised to see your HIWI ("Houston: It's Worth It"- for those of you who don't know) book. It's a great warm lovely feeling for anyone who has ever lived in Houston or has visited long enough to adore the sprawling, chaotic, zoning-free city!
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous. Now the big question is, why don't you show moew of your home on your blog, Paloma??
ReplyDeleteLove it! Now why doesn't Paloma show more of her home in her blog?? :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect coffee table collection! I love keeping design books out (my favs. right now are 1000 greeting cards and A Girl's guide to decorating). Because they're off the beaten path for most people they love to pick them up and browse! Also, this is the first time I've seen the Penguin Classics in a room (I've been debating about getting them). They look fab!
ReplyDeleteLove those black & white chairs :)
