Meet Ernesto and Anselmo (the worlds smallest siamese twins!) - one of the many attractions at Finest Freaks Brooklyn.
The little "specimen" jar has a two sided tag attached. One side introduces the twins and the other side reads:
Come one, come all,
for only one night.
You'll marvel and gasp
at our shocking sights.
Oddities of nature,
all on display.
Come see for yourself
on Halloween day.
I finally dropped them in the mail this Saturday so our guests should have them by now. Hope they get a kick out of them.
FABULOUSLY FREAKY!!! I love this! Possibly my fave to date! You never fail to impress.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE your Halloween posts! I am excited to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteI love the poem! I also love that it is focused on a eerie carnival sideshow instead of the traditional ghost/goblin/witch/living dead themes. Your idea is just as spirited, and very unique!
ReplyDeletedoes the creativity ever stop? you my friend are overflowing with amazingness.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of Halloween, but I totally appreciate all of your creative genius! What is the yellow stuff in the jars? Is it solid or liquid? I'm curious, how many people do you usually invite each year?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! You did such an amazing job. You always have the best invites.
ReplyDeleteOh so very Cool!
ReplyDeleteI don't really enjoy Halloween, but I've so been looking forward to seeing what you were going to come up with your party invite for this year! Love this! Can't wait to see your decorations!

ReplyDeleteAmazing. It just gets better each year! Now I'm super excited to see the decorations. We're going to try to get ours up this weekend (a lame attempt in comparison to yours, probably) but we're saving the bigger stuff for just Halloween weekend so it doesn't get rained on too much.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea. I love the tags that go with the bottled babies. I just wanted to let you know I made invitations with your idea of the spider infestation as my inspiration, arborhouselane.blogspot.com I am sure your guests are going to have a great time.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I am cracking up! I love this. I so wish I could go to your Halloween party. It sounds like it is going to be wonderful!!!! Can't wait to see how you do the outside of your house this time.

ReplyDeleteOMG! You are insane! Those are sick! lol...
ReplyDeleteI love it! I would definitely attend your party.
ReplyDeleteThat seriously creeps me out ... but they are AMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteThese are very Ripley's Believe-it-or-Not! I've been watching all week for word about your Halloween plans, and you didn't disappoint!
ReplyDeleteThese remind me of the "Bodyworlds" exhibition of real human modies (preserved for all to view). Strange but so fascinating that you just can't look away!
ReplyDeleteI love them! Fabulous. I so want to be your friend and come to your parties:)
ReplyDeleteLove the tags you designed for this frightful event.
ReplyDeletexo,
cristin

i LOVE this. what liquid are the siamese twins swimming in? i just have to know!
ReplyDeletenow i'm trying to scheme a similarly creepy skull, dia-de-los-muertos themed invitation!
I tell you, when it come to Halloween, you're the queen! Super cool invites, Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love them !!!!
ReplyDeleteSuper creepy and yet super awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi! Love your website sooo much and your cool skeleton house! I get inspired by all your projects!! Listen, I am not sure if I "get" the specimen jar project. I mean, you definitely have the right creepy look, but it looks sort of like aborted fetuses in jars. I was taken aback by the image. I guess I just don't know about freak shows. I thought it was real people with shocking abnormalities, not in the fetal stage. Thanks for taking all the feedback even if it is from some reader who might not "get" the look.
ReplyDeleteSo freakin cool! I cant wait to see more pics of your party. I love when people think outside of the box and push the limit a little. Awesome invitations....can you mail one to me in Jersey. lol
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Sooo creepy!
ReplyDeleteso so sooooo major! i die for an invite to your party.
ReplyDeleteAnother fantastic invite! I keep checking my mail but mine hasn't arrived yet ;) And what a teaser too... the mini siamese twins are brilliant - can't wait to see what the rest of the freaks are!
ReplyDeleteyour invites are fantastic! so creative / different :) wish i had a friend as enthusiastic abt holiday parties and such!
ReplyDeletejennifer
I got your message, and I'm so embarassed! How did I miss that?! I'm sorry, so rude! I absolutely hate it (seriously, it is a peeve of mine) when someone leaves a comment that clearly shows they did not read my post. I re-read and I must have missed an earlier post saying you were in the process of making them because I try to be good about that myself. Anyways, now even more impressed with your creative genius! I especially love the typography on the tags! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh. My. GODDDDD these are awesome!!!!!!!! (I meant all those exclamation marks).
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Amazing. Don't sell yourself short, I think these totally live up to last year! Fantastic!
@l.uhm: Freakshows are definitely about abnormal people (the bearded woman, the sword-swallower, etc), but they were also often just for the display of the bizarre-- skeletons of strange (often fabricated) new species, two-headed-whatevers, and yes, preserved human subjects. Ripley's Believe it or Not was born out of the freakshow period and tradition, when the country was captivated by an increasingly scientific understanding of the world and entertainment was aimed at catering to that fascination (this is also around the time when circuses and natural history museums start showing up). What I mean to say is, these invites are perfect!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for mine to come in the mail!
ReplyDelete;)
You are certifiable you know! This is wacky with a capital W. And Oh so CREATIVE!
One of the most creative invits you've ever done. lol I think it's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYou must throw some great parties! So much thought and detail! Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I thought my husband and I were the only people to throw crazy themed Halloween parties every year. My husband is constantly trying to top himself.
ReplyDeleteHow do you think this stuff up?! Great...Janell
ReplyDeleteCreepy- just how I like you at Halloween! :) You outdid yourself on those tags.
ReplyDeleteThese are by far my favorite! I LOVE them.... Can't wait to see what the house looks like!
ReplyDeleteI would love to bottle your creativity. Simply smashing! IMPO those are on the same level as the survival kit. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most awesome idea ever! I can't wait to host a party soon so that I can get to make use of all the inspiration you've been given me!
ReplyDeleteWOW, you are so talented! Your friends are so lucky!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE Your invites!!! At last I've found yet another amazing Halloween blogger!
ReplyDeleteThose are so awesomely disturbing! I'm both jealous AND inspired by you actually having a Halloween party to which you send funky invitations. I've wanted to host something for years and am forever dropping the ball. :(
ReplyDeletewow, this has got to be the most INCREDIBLE halloween invite I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteHow creative!
Amazing as always! And I too wish I lived nearby and was one of your gal pals! hugs from conroe, tx!
ReplyDeleteOMG LOVE!
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of these
ReplyDeleteI am not at all a fan of Halloween. In fact, I hate it. But I must say, my jaw in on the floor right now. I'm marveling over your creativity!! The lettering on the cards is absolutely gorgeous! They're like little pieces of artwork.
ReplyDeleteOk, these are amazing! I throw a pumpkin carving party every year and I always do crazy invites by mail, and these are the best I've seem by far. My question, where in the world did you find those little baby figurines??
ReplyDeleteThanks. The little figures are sold at party stores for baby showers. Of course I had to make the siamese on my own. Lots of carnage making these ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the inspiration that you have given me. I used the creature survival kit for 2011 Halloween, with some of my own adjustments, and people were just amazed by the detail put into it. I have a question about your "Siamese Twins", what is the fluid in the jars. I played with a few different solutions, but I'm not crazy about the results. Again thank you for your wonderful creativity! Any help you can pass on would be greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteTabi
Hi tabi. For the twin invites, I just used water with a little yellow food coloring. Hope that helps.
