Blue in the Bathroom

Over the holiday break, I did get one home related task accomplished. I've been meaning to add some little touches to the parlor bathroom for ages and I finally had a chance to get around to it.

If you want a refresher of what this room looked like before we renovated, check it out here. Last year I finally added some of my photos over the tub and I was really happy with that how looked but it still needed a little more oomph.

After finding this fun patterned rug at Target, I picked up some candles, a cheap tub caddy, and mini vases to complete the look.

Nothing earth shattering but it looks a lot more finished to my eye now, not to mention the tub caddy being really useful when taking a bath. I really like how it looks a little more lived in now. What do you think?

  1. I love the matchstick idea, but what will people strike them against?

  2. It has warmth to it, and yes more lived in. I can't believe you got that rug at Target. I think it would look great in my master bath, I'll have to go check it out.

  3. Oh~ I need a tub caddy now too! I'll have to see if they make one wide enough for my tub. I love how you displayed a book on it. The rug is a cute little touch.

Can I ask where you got the caddy? I'm torn between a $100 one I found online and a $20 Walmart option. Did you go high or low end?

  7. I just bought that same rug!!! I love it. I love the pop of green in the vase. Such a beautiful bathroom.

  8. I love the caddy with the book. I'm wondering if a glass of wine would stand upright. ;-)

  9. Looks great, the colors all work together really well. I really love that rug, it's perfect for the space.

  10. Ohhh wow!! Seeing those before pictures is truly amazing!!! I can't believe the bathroom looked like that BEFORE!! You did a fabulous job!

  11. The bathroom looks gorgeous. I love the accents, especially the photos over the tub. I think the little things can make such a huge impact. My home has undergone some ripping out & replacing too, but I haven't yet attended to the little touches and you're right: it looks less lived in and "homey". My bathroom has two rubber ducks and a photo. It needs something more ;)

I can't believe the rug is from Target! It looks so expensive!

  17. Lurve it!! Its stunning and I feel inspired, especially the matchsticks in the vase! Love it. And I echo the first commenter, do you have the box stashed somewhere to strike them? or are they just for decoration?

  21. I think it looks great! I love the rug! Hmm... haven't seen it in my Target. I guess that means I need to plan a trip! You're right, it is more finished now. I say more finished because when are we ever done with a space! I'm still crushing over your fabulous photo's used in the space!

  22. I love how everything is similar in color, but the different textures, patterns, shades, etc. add so much depth. I would have guessed light grey/white/marble would look stark, but it's the total opposite - warm and inviting. It's perfect!

  23. 1. Love the added touches. TOTALLY feels lived in now.

    2. The painting/picture over the toilet... where did you find that? I love apothecary jars filled with bathroom things and feel like a painting of these favorite things would be pretty great for my own bathroom.

  27. Thanks everyone.

On the little cup of matchsticks, I totally stole that from Kay of Apartment #412 ( http://apartment-412.blogspot.com/ ) Such a simple idea.

I need to glue some of the striking thingy to the bottom of the vase or get some self striking matches like these (http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Strike-Anywhere-Kitchen-Matches/dp/B0044FT8WI/ref=pd_sim_sg_2)

For now they just look cool but will be functional soon.

Anon: I went for the super cheap tub caddy (http://www.amazon.com/The-Storage-Store-Chrome-Caddy/dp/B001J1SR4U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1294341291&sr=8-2) and it totally looks it. It does the job but I should have just gotten the fancy one b/c I think this one looks chintzy. Oh well - live and learn.

Sarah: No, a glass of wine wouldn't stay upright on this one but you can buy some that have a wine glass holder!

Meg: I got that little painting 2 years ago at Home Goods. I actually got a set of 4 but it was just too much in here so I just put up the one. You can see the others here since I havent done a thing with them: http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/2009/01/art-for-loo.html

  61. Why have I not been here before! It appears that I have been living under a rock and I guess someone just kicked it off me :)......It is a snowday here in Atlanta so I have had the whole day to sit at the computer guilt free....The bath is sparkling now as in "I need my sunglasses"......and I might have to put on my snow shoes to hike it up to Target for that rug!!! Your styling is perfection as are you photo skills...it might sound like I am gushing...I am! I must sign up so I don't miss anything.
