Thanks for the comments on the shore kitchen. Still loads to do there so I'll keep you updated. In other catching up news, remember my unfinished living room? Guess how much Ive done in here? Nada. Zilch. Zero.
But I did finally find an old dresser that will serve as a sofa table (the current table is moving into the hubs very much a mess man room). It was hard to find something 30 inches or less. Everything I liked was too high until I found this bad boy at the Meeker Avenue Flea a few weeks ago. Its a bit on the shorter side at just 28 inches but beggers can't be choosers.
Sure, its a mess right now but its going to get a paint treatment so it can take its rightful place behind the sofa. Unsure of the color. I'm thinking Martha Stewart Plumage - not only because I like it but because I have nearly a full quart of it left from my stencil junk drawer overhaul project last month. That would also give me an accent color for this room so I could add a few tweaks.
That said, I'm not opposed to springing for a whole new quart of paint. Anyone have another suggestion for color?
I adore that color! What a great way to bring a splash, but still a somewhat subdued splash to your room!
ReplyDeleteI am a succer for blue - I would love to see it your room.. especially paired with the gold accents..
ReplyDeleteLove that color!!
ReplyDeletePINK!!! Have you seen the latest issue of House Beautiful?? It's the new color! I posted about it just yesterday and I'm dying for an excuse to use it in my house!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the idea of painting it with that accent color! I've contemplated a color similar for my entryway buffet... hmmm... You've really got me thinking now!
ReplyDeleteI like a plum color with the couch and wall color. Maybe Martha's Plum Wine or even a bit deeper Chianti. I do however love the Blue too!
ReplyDeleteI love the dresser!! But have you ever used Martha Stewart paint on furniture before?! I would highly suggest not using it! Try a different brand! I painted two dressers and a table with some Martha Stewart paint...primed it and painted it...the paint has NEVER fully dried. It is dry to the touch but if you set, for example, a magazine on it and then pick it up an hour later, it sticks!!! As in the paper/print will be on the table! It is a complete mess! I hope this saves you so much time!
ReplyDeleteCheck out this color I did on my dresser last year. I still oogle over the color - it looks so amazing! http://ohbrooke.com/2010/03/23/dresser-before-and-after/
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I'm sure whatever you choose with be great!
Great color choice. I think it will look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow about a deep plum color?
ReplyDeleteSweet find!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great color and looks like it'll fit right in to your home - while allowing you to play it up.
ReplyDeleteAnother suggestion that sprung to mind was a fun forest green. I've been seeing it pop up lately, and played right, it can look so modern and fresh! Imagine a green table with a vase of fresh, white tulips on top...
Maybe Bonsai, for example?

You don't need suggestions, please that color is going to look awesome! Can't wait to see how it turns out, especially since I'm on the hunt for a dresser for behind my sofa!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the blue- I recently re-did our living room and painted it a similar (but lighter) gray- and picked a slightly darker- more peacock blue/green that I thought would be a great accent. I like the way the blue works with the gray and black accents you have going on!
ReplyDeleteNo recs for paint but for height issue, what if you put it on casters?
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love that color, I'm not digging the blue in that room. I think white. If ever I've seen a place for shabby-chic, this is it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe paint 1/2 the top blue, and the other 1/2 white and compare...
a bright violet or chartreuse!
ReplyDeleteI actually think you should sand it down and re-stain it a little bit darker. It's beautiful. Painting wood is a big decision (in my humble opinion, anyway). Of course it's not a family heirloom or anything so if you thinking painting it would work best, go for it.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought :)
I adore plumage! The colour will be fabulous with your walls!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the height of the dresser will be an issue particularly if you accessorize it with a few items of varying height and texture for visual interest. You are sure to do yet another stellar job. Can't wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty find! I think the color will look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI think this color will be lovely on this piece. I think you can add a pop of color and revive the furniture. It looks like your living room is finished. I did see where someone had a white flat screen television. I would love to find one for my house, I just hate seeing them on display.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous dresser! I love that color. It's very similar to what I used for a dresser makeover.
ReplyDeleteI love the color, but not sure it really goes with the rest of the room as is. Maybe you can find a great throw or pillow to pull it all together. Personally, I would go for white or a high gloss black in that room. It will be classic and you won't get sick of the color after a year or so. But I don't like to repaint every couple of years like some people do.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me where you bought your sofa and chairs. I'm on the hunt for a taupey/silvery slope arm chair and yours are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMaybe its just all this winter weather but i think yellow or a great celadon green might bring a great contrast...especially if paired with some great throw pillows.
ReplyDeleteI love that blue!!! I'm jotting down the name of it....must find something to paint that color!!
ReplyDeleteLove that color~ can't wait to see it on that dresser!
ReplyDeleteI love blue but my first thought was a dark plum! That dresser is AMAZING!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great piece! I love the blue you picked, too!
ReplyDeleteLove the Martha Stewart color. I think that I would go with it. On another topic, what is the gray you used in the living room?
ReplyDeletemargaretlima1@hotmail.com
I would love to see it a smoky gray or high gloss black....the blue is pretty but a bit like too much blue eye-shadow, maybe dated and you may tire of it, save that blue for the beach house....
ReplyDeleteand have a glam mirror cut for the top.....add some lights and voila!
pve
a tall lamp with a black shade and metallic inside.....love to see that.
ReplyDeletea little height to the room, everything is the same eye-level.

OhBrooke posted a color that I feel would look good on your cabinets at the shore house.
ReplyDeleteAs for the piece in the living room I'd go with black. Beware of Martha Stewart paints, I've read a few negative posts about it.
I like it. Although mine is full of color right now, it will soon be back to the drab black and white.

I really like that color, but I don't know if it goes with the color on your walls (although it's always difficult to determine color combinations based on photographs). If you really like the color for the dresser, you may want to repaint the walls. The architecture and molding is so beautiful in that room that I think a high gloss black would keep the elegant and modern twist consistent throughout. Then you can put lamps on the dresser for your pop of color.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that color! Looks like you could swim in it! If you want it a big higher, you could get some casters to add to the legs... would make it easy to roll around too! Good luck with the project. Do you have a warm place to paint in the winter?
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of Plumage. Such a great blend of blue and green. I am painting my tv console that color as we speak!
ReplyDeleteI adore that colour. My runner up choice would be a deep plum. Can't wait to see how gorgeous it will be when finished.
ReplyDeleteI love your color pick. How about a pearlescent or metallic sheen to the top of the dresser over your color?
ReplyDeleteI have that maple French provincial buffet table, with matching china cabinet/hutch, dining table and 6 chairs. Coincindentally,in the last week I've bumped pieces from my set in 2 separate blogs. The buffet in yours, and the china cabinet here: http://lessthanperfectlifeofbliss.blogspot.com/2010/07/french-cabinet-makeover.html
ReplyDeleteI want to paint them but am feeling guilty because they're in good shape.
Interestingly, I got the whole set at Time Galleries on 5th Ave/15th St in Bklyn for $500. They've got quite a selection in the basement, you should check it out!
Don't paint the "sofa table" I obviously can't see its flaws but it has an such a great antiqued old world quality!
ReplyDeleteNice find! And I love the leftover colour...gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteOh, definitely go with that blue. Love it. And BTW, your blog inspired me to click on Penny Lane Designs and have Marina do a massive overhaul of my own blog! So thanks! Love your blog :)
