Last month we got to take a short but fabulous break in Barcelona. You might remember we visited Madrid last year and loved it. Everyone said Barcelona is even better but I had a hard time believing it...but now Im a convert.
Barcelona has a certain buzz that makes being a tourist there extra special. Everywhere you turn there is something wonderful to look at - the art, the people, the architecture, the history.
Enough babbling - here was our trip in photos.
We also got to spend a day touring the surrounding areas and learning all about the life of Salvatore Dali.
We had such a great time - 3 days in this city was definitely not enough!
In case you haven't had enough of my travel talk, pop over to the travel section. I've just reorganized it to make it easier to find my trip recaps.
If you like my photos, browse the prints I have for sale.
Gorgeous photos - makes me wanna go there! :-)

ReplyDeleteI love that door knocker! Oh, and I had forgot about that curvy building... I remember seeing that back in a architecture class in college. Such a special place! Thanks for sharing it:)
ReplyDeleteCan we trade lives?
ReplyDeleteYou are so well suited for a career in travel journalism and photography...I'm certain you've given it some thought? I suspect you are very successful at your 'real' job, but I hope you find a way to follow your wonderful talent in this direction if you ever decide to do so! Janell

ReplyDeleteThey're a wattle tree. You'll see them blooming everywhere in Aus if you come in wintertime. There are a few summer varieties though.
I need to get myself to Barcelona STAT. Loved your pics and love your blog.

ReplyDeleteI had my second trip to Barcelona in September. I did the Segway glide tour around the harbour, beach and town what a great way to see everything. Is there anything better than tapas and sangria? I think not!
ReplyDeleteBarcelona is my FAVORITE city. My mom is from Barcelona (she moved here 38 years ago) and I have spent many days exploring the city. You are right. There is something special about this city - food, people, art, sea, something. I just love it and I can't wait to take my kids to show them my adopted city. To feel and and see the magic. I love your photos. They make me want to plan a trip ASAP. : )
ReplyDeleteYour trip recaps are one of my all-time favorite things to read online. Stunning photos, as always. :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Janell - that is very sweet of you to say. I don't think my skills are up to snuff for a professional gig but if anyone ever wants to pay me to take photos, I won't be turning them down :)
ReplyDeleteThanks - I was wondering what that stuff was. Too bad I won't be in Australia in the winter - im sure it must look amazing in big quantities.
ReplyDeleteHi Julie. Happy to share what we did although its probably pretty typical.
ReplyDeleteDay 1: arrived from overnight flight, got settled in our rental apartment, walked all around the area including the Las Ramblas street, went to the famous food market, the department store and out to eat - all within walking distance of our apartment on Passeig de Gracia.
Day 2: We had pre arranged a full day tour to the areas outside Barcelona. Specifically the Dali museum, the medievil city of Girona and the seaside town of Cadaques.
Day 3: We started off the day by touring one of the Gaudi houses that was near our apartment. Then we walked across the main part of the city (stopping into a fabric store on the way over) to rent little yellow scooter cars to drive around the city and hit some of the sites incluging the Segrada Familia (gorgeous church) and Parc Guell (interesting park designed by Guadi)
Then it was time to go home. So much more to see than we could possibly do in 3 days but did cram a lot of fun in.
What beautiful photographs. You were able to give such a wonderful feel to the city.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge Barcelona fan. I visited when I was 13 and it left an indelible mark on my design aesthetic. Amazing photos, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCan you rec. a place to stay in Barcelona? My husband and I are going in July and...well, we just have our tickets and that's it. Your photos are beautiful though and make me feel good about the leap of faith :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWe went with another couple and rented an apartment which was a great way to experience the city since we could shop at the markets for food and feel a little more like we were living there than we would at a hotel. We stayed at this apartment which was pretty great: http://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g187497-d1854302-Elegant_Apartment_in_prestigious_Paseo_de_Gracia-Barcelona_Catalonia.html
ReplyDeleteNice photos! I loved them! You've made me remember my stay in Barcelona last year when I went to study Spanish at bcnlanguages... such great memories there! I wish I could go back soon and visit my school and teachers, they're amazing! :)
