Maybe it's been cooped up in the cold for too long but I've been just the tiniest bit obsessed with jellyfish lately. There is just something magical and mesmerizing about them.
I snapped these photos at the Baltimore aquarium last week. They might make a less expected addition to the shore kitchen (instead of one of these posters)
What do you think? Is it just too weird?
Anyone else with me on my particular obsession?
It isn't weird at all! Your photos are fantastic! Frame those babies!
ReplyDeleteThanks but which one? I only really have a spot for one large print.
DeleteDefinitely the last one. Or maybe the middle one. Those would be my vote.
DeleteThe middle one. Love the striking yellow against the bright blue.
DeleteThe top two are my favorites. If you want to go more neutral, go with the first. If you want to inject more color, go with the second. You can't go wrong with any of them, though, seriously!
DeleteThese photos are beautiful. We don't see jelly fish on the west coast (of Canada) until the water is warm, and so they are a sign of summer. Just stay away from the red ones! No I don't think your obsession is strange. They jellyfish are so ethereal, so graceful, so fleeting.
ReplyDeleteIve never actually seen a jelly fish in the wild. Just at aquariums. I'm sure if I had every met one up close, I wouldn't be such a fan :)
DeleteLove them! My husband and I were just at the Baltimore Aquarium a few weeks ago as well. Here are a few of my photos: http://jax-and-jewels.blogspot.com/2014/02/tourist-for-day.html
ReplyDeleteThey're gorgeous! And you do have an octopus on your dresser, IIRC, so you obviously have a love of roundish sea creatures.
ReplyDeleteIs there anyway you could work these photos ( or others) into your shore decor?
Not just round ones - I like sea urchins and star fish and other sea creatures too. I'm indiscriminate :)
DeleteYes, the plan is to print one of these up as a large print and hang it in the kitchen but I can't decided which.
You HAVE to use these in the shore kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI can't stop staring at them. Did you love the hanging scuplture/mobile of them as well? That would be a DIY project for sure!
ReplyDeletei LOVE jellyfish and actually just ordered a few prints from our most recent aquarium visit to hang in our home. I especially love the yellow against blue. And trust me, even in the wild, they are just as beautiful...even if you don't want to get as close. :)
ReplyDeleteYou should check out Jelly Fish Lake in Palau! I went there in September 2013, and you can snorkel right with MILLIONS of them! It's really incredible. In this lake, they have no nature predators, so they have evolved to have no defense system or stingers! Really fascinating! Google it!
ReplyDeleteThat is totally on my bucket list! Do you have photos? I'd love to see.
DeleteThese are gorgeous....but after being stung by one last year (it wrapped itself around my leg), I'm not so enamored.
ReplyDeleteOooh yes! Do the middle one.The colors are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove them (even though I was stung pretty badly by an enormous creature off the coast of Maryland as a child). Go with the middle one - the color and composition are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGah! I'm sure if I was ever stung, I wouldn't appreciate their beauty at all!
DeleteThe middle one for sure! It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeletethat first image is my favorite- amazing! i love the black and white! and we live in MD so have been there a couple times.... I just wish it was free like the national zoo! ;)
ReplyDeleteI could watch them forever - they really are mesmerizing. We have our own little aquarium nearby, across the border from us in Jenks, OK. Yes, as far from the ocean as you can get! I can sit & watch the jelly fish more than anything else.
ReplyDeleteNot weird at all! Jellies are beautiful. They are also so photogenic, they make me feel like I'm a rockstar photographer (which I'm not)! The Monterey Bay Aquarium had a spectacular exhibit last time I went.
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time photographing these because its really dark in the jelly fish room, there were a ton of people in there and the reflection off the tank glass always gets in the way. I think I have to go to Monterey!
DeleteNot weird! Jellyfish are amazing and your photos are beautiful.
ReplyDeletelooove jellyfish and the pictures, but think you should stick to the last 2 images because the 1st one has a completely different feel and color scheme, maybe you could choose another one more in line with the last 2?
ReplyDeletejust read the other comments, think you should go with the middle one or the last one if you wanted a ore monochromatic look!
DeleteThe middle one for a pop of color b/c I think you mentioned you are going to use a pop of orange also!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm not using any orange in the kitchen.
DeleteI've been obsessed with jellyfish forever! You should totally use them! Our daughter's room is getting decorated with them! I vote for #2!
ReplyDeleteLove jellyfish and how fun would they be in your place!
ReplyDeleteHave you seen Jenny Andrews Anderson's [MFAMB] beautiful jellyfish paintings? The series was incredible and she accepts commissions. This one is a favorite of mine, titled 'Pedigreed'. http://mfamb.tumblr.com/post/67785403334/pedigreed-22-x-30-paper
Oooh ... and just realized you said those were your photos. Gorgeous!! You must use them.
DeleteThanks Edie. I love Jenny's paintings but I'm trying to use my limited budget on other things so its either DIY artwork or photographs for me :)
DeleteLove the first one but no. 3 definitely goes best with your decor and the look you're going after.
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny - I was just researching vintage jellyfish printable art last night! Love them. They look ethereal but dangerous at the same time.
ReplyDeleteDid you come up with anything amazing? Would love to know.
DeleteThey are all good choices. My favorite is the first one.
ReplyDeleteNope ... Not at all they are fascinating. I prefer them in B&W photos.
ReplyDeleteVera
We used to live in Monterey and loved the jelly fish at the aquarium! I also have one of a sea dragon that I love. I think they'll look great in the kitchen!
ReplyDeletePULEEEEEEEZE use the middle one! The movement and color are perfect! The composition is right on! Such a great idea!
ReplyDeletePuleeeeeze use center image! The composition, movement, color are right on! SUCH a good idea for the Shore House!
ReplyDeleteI'm rather late to the party, but welcome to team jellyfish! Your photos are absolutely stunning, and would be lovely if you had them blown up and hung. I have a few antique book lithos of jellyfish and they can be found on Etsy and eBay for very reasonable prices.
ReplyDeleteDo you have these in your print shop? I would love to be able to buy one to put in my new apartment! I love jellyfish! There's just something peaceful about them....
ReplyDeleteDo you have these in your print shop? I'd love to be able to buy them and put them in my new apartment! There's something so peaceful about jellyfish swimming.
ReplyDeleteHi Ana - I dont now because I'm going to change print vendors shortly so I haven't been adding new stock but if you tell me which one you wanted and in what size and timeframe, I could put it up. Just drop me an email.
Deleteyes!! these are gorgeous shots! it would be nice to have something on the wall that is so personal. the second one with the brighter blue and punch of yellow is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteNot feelin' it but the beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder so go for it!
