Just back from a trip to Ikea (for a planter that wasn't there anymore - don't you hate when that happens??). While I was there, spotted these silver Ribba frames that I think would be great with some black and white photography.
So now my attention has turned to our parlor floor bathroom (<----If you're new here, click here for a look at the before.) I haven't put an ounce of effort in here since we finished the renovation - I think its time to remedy that.
So now I have the frames - just need to figure out which prints to order. Do I use some of the photos from Paris like this?
Or should I push my lazy butt out into the world and take some architectural photos of Grand Central Station (my original plan) or Brooklyn architecture? Either way, I want to decide this weekend.
What do you think????
Once these photos are up, I think I just need a couple of other items to call this room "finished for now". First a little bit of softness under foot with a little rug. I'm liking the looks of this one but not sure if I want to go with cream. Maybe this one?
And finally, I need to find a tub caddy for the clawfoot. I don't use it that often but when I do, it would be nice to have something to set a magazine and bubbles on. This one from Pottery Barn is tempting but a splurge at $70. It's in a polished nickel finish which is a big plus. Mix matched hardware annoys me.
On the other hand, there is a $15 chrome one sold at Walmart that is hard to resist.
that tub caddy is genius! i didn't even know such a thing existed and figured i was destined to wrinkly book/magazines b/c they always seem to fall in the water! [i'll have to check out walmart for the cheapie version though.]

My votes are - (1) Brooklyn architecture; (2) JC Penny Bath Rug (check out West Elm also - I bought a nice bath mat & matching towels on sale recently); and (3)splurge for the PB bath caddy :)

ReplyDeleteBed Bath and Beyond has a nickel bath caddy for $30...although it has a few "clever" appendages.
ReplyDeleteI would buy the Wal-Mart one and a can of nickel spray paint...It is like $5.00.
Also I vote for the Grand Central photographs and the cream rug.
Looks like your bathroom door is upside down! (larger flat area at the top, not bottom) Was that intentional?

ReplyDeleteKeep looking for a less expensive caddy. I have bought them for jobs much cheaper and very workable. You might try BB &B or look at Crate and Barrel, Pier one, Cost plus maybe. For some reason PB is expensive on those goodies. Love the local photos idea... best of luck!

I like the idea of the grey rug.
I'd use pictures of Brooklyn architecture or Central Park. Bed, Bath & Beyond to checking out the caddy. I like the Target rug because of the color. A cream colored rug will spend more time in the washing machine than anywhere else.

Wow. That is such a gorgeous bathroom! Your taste is impeccable. I vote to splurge on the Pottery Barn caddy. I can appreciate wanting some Brooklyn photography in your space, but I also think the bathroom looks so luxe Paris that your travel photos suit it beautifully. I'd probably be booed for mentioning that Walmart has tub caddies, they're just basic though, no fancy hardware but the right finish. I vote for the Paris pics.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I think you should go with the Grand Central Station architectural photos. They would really complement the feel that the octagon and subway tiles create. I think you should splurge on the tub caddy. Chances are the one from Walmart will look ok for a while, but then begin rusting (like the shower caddy in my shower I got from BB&B). I bet the Pottery Barn caddy lasts much, much longer. Your home is just so very beautiful!!

I have been stalking your blog for a while now, but never commented. You have some great ideas, so I am sure it will end up looking great, whatever you decide. For what it's worth, my opinion is:

-Pottery Barn Caddy (amen on the rust/nastyness factor)
-Hit up Costco for a bathmat. I am not sure if they have the Turkish Spa Collection online, but the best bathmat ever. They are very similar to the restoration hardware ones. Only you can get like 25 of the costco ones for the same price.
The bathroom is to DIE for gorgeous, but I agree, needs a little sumthin' sumthin' to cozy it up a bit.

Do love the artwork idea, especially if you go with Brooklyn/NYC images.
I'm a fan of white bath rugs, just so classic - yes, they get dirty, but get a good-quality cotton one, and you can bleach it if/when needed.
RE: the bath caddy - go with the nickel plated, you'll feel better BUT I recently saw a lot of nickel-finish bath accessories at HomeGoods, if you have a convenient location.

Love the Paris pics but Brooklyn architecture or Grand Central Station gets my vote. It fits the subway tile / hex tile design in your bath. Paris photos might lend themselves more to solid block marble baths IMHO. Does that make sense?

ReplyDeleteI would go with the Paris photos, love all that you have posted. I think i would go for the Pottery barn caddy. As posted earlier, a great bathroom deserves a great caddy. Plus you dont want to risk rusting on the tub with the cheap one. Check out www.thebathworks.com, my best friends husband owns this store in Nashville, TN. i am sure they have some really neat options for a caddy. He is the only french and english bathtub restorer in the US. I like to brag about him because i am so proud, but if you recall the movie "The Holiday" the tub Cameron Diaz sits in is his tub.

I vote for NY photos with that fish eye lens of yours (just love those shots). From what I recall you don't use this bath that often, so I would go with the Walmart caddy since it will not rust as easily due to its infrequent use. I love your floor without the rug, truly floor candy ;o). I think you could get away with no rug and just get some nice towels to add some softness to the room. Just my 2 cents.
