Your favorite etsy sellers.

Well, it seems that my opinion on etsy struck a cord with some. Kind of surprised so many of you feel that more than 1 out of 10 items is worth buying.

I probably should mention I wasn't making a swipe at anyone's shop in particular. I tend to think decor bloggers (and readers) have a higher standard than the general population. In other words, I think you rock! So no need to take it personally - I'm not talking about you.

A wise woman suggested I ask you to share your favorite sellers on etsy. So lets hear it - I'm all ears on hearing what you guys are buying.

Add the link to your favorite seller in the mclinky above (click add link) and let's discuss.

I don't really have true favorite sellers as I haven't made many etsy purchases. But if I had my druthers, I'd already have a wall of artwork from Janet Hill and A Black Apple.

Clearly, Im not their only fan as I rarely even see an original painting available and couldn't afford a wall of them anyway. I'm mostly curious what you are actually buying.

  1. I'm a little baffled about Etsy, too. Someone suggested that I sell my Queen of Cashmere items there. I was somewhat offended. Really, why would I want to do that when my products are sold by retailers like Saks Fifth Aveuue? Estsy seems so craft-y. Maybe I'm just unelightened. With baited breath I await the links to the treasures...

  2. My current favorite is the shop of Jessie Danger. Amazing rings.

  3. You know, when I read your post yesterday, I was a little surprised. Etsy? I love etsy! But, when you put it that way as in buying more than 1 out of 10 items, I totally get it. I would say no, I will not buy 1 of every 10 items. And, while I don't have any favorites, I am quite happy with my purchases. But, I think that is because I normally search and buy vintage items or supplies. I much prefer it to ebay for vintage items because I can't get outbid on something I really like. I see the price and if it agrees with me I purchase. I only search for very specific items or visit shops run by fellow bloggers.
I can't wait to see all the favorites of everyone else. Thanks for starting the list!
    SMiles!

I've definitely bought things via Etsy, and have loved everything I've bought. It's just the process of finding items! I love your link idea (I added a #4-9 up there!), and have found that blog recommendations steer me to the good stuff. Also, I've found cool sellers via the Editor's Pick section of Etsy.

  5. I found out about Etsy last year, my friend Margaret Roach, from www.awaytogarden.com introduced me to it as she was helping me redo my website. I use it as my shopping cart for my website, there are tons on benefits.
Your comment about Etsy "I think 90% of stuff on Etsy is complete crap" Well in response you have to include everything that is sold all over the web to be lumped in there.

There are amazing artists on Etsy, it is a platform that allows someone to have a web presence.

Who is anyone to say what crap is, one man's trash is also someone's treasure.

  6. I appreciate the concept of Etsy, but I agree with you that I rarely find anything I want to purchase. I quickly grow tired of having to filter out 17 pages of "another man's treasure (aka junk to me)" trying to find something I might want to purchase.

I do however LOVE it when other bloggers suggest ETSY sellers for me, thus taking all the frustrating leg work out of the equation. So I have no links to add, but enjoyed looking at each link already contributed! Thanks for the post!

  7. I have to be honest, I was a little upset with your last post. You REALLY don't know what you are missing! Especially for someone like you who is creative, loves to thrift and has a beautiful old home that could add so many vintage things!!! I LOVE their VINTAGE section, not only for great clothes, but awesome period stuff for an older home. Here are some of my favorites:

I also love Etsy for their paper goods and actually ordered my beautiful wedding invites from here... And I spent big bucks too! I think it may actually boost your business.

Check it out! You may come to love Etsy!

  8. I added #15 - etsy love. Someone else finds more design / less craft items.

I definitely agree that there is a fair amount of shnik-shnak, but there are some beautiful items lurking. I think maybe that's part of the allure... finding those exclusive treasures.

  9. I agree with you in that 90% of what is on Etsy are things I would never consider buying. Pillow cases made with cheap discount fabric store fabric? Not for me... I could go on. However - the things that I have spotted on Etsy that I love, well, I REALLY love them. So it's very much a mixed bag for me. More often than not, though, I am left scratching my head. At least there is something for everyone, right?

  10. I added the dog collar link. My daughter ordered a collar for our collie mix, we are very happy with the quality. The detachable flower is a great idea.
You can find unique items on Etsy, only drawback is the search time.....

  12. i added 31-37. 37 is my shop. i have to say when i read your post yesterday, i was offended (having an etsy shop myself). when i actually think about it, i do sort thru a lot to find the good stuff if i do a general search. but i have found some amazing shops via blog recommendations! i've purchased several etsy items for myself and for gifts and have always been pleased with the quality. and i feel better knowing i've supported a smaller business.

  13. I agree, Etsy, can be a little hit and miss. As a shop owner myself though, I like to think that I am providing an option for people out there wanting something unique, and one of a kind. Not from a big box store. I think that's the heart of Etsy. For better or worse.

  14. Love Janet Hill! I purchased one of her prints for our half-bath!

  15. I'm a big fan of etsy. I think there are some incredible artists on etsy. I tend to avoid the crafty stuff and just focus on the types of art I like and I love when other bloggers recommend pieces and shops to look at.

I would rather buy something unique than purchase artwork at IKEA or Target.

    That's my 2 cents.

  16. I don't disagree there are some great artists on etsy. Ive said that many times already. Im not sure where Ive given the impression that I feel otherwise. But with any sort of open marketplace there is going to be a lot of undesireable merchandise. I just don't believe that its a sacred topic. I'm certainly appreciative of the option and the great work that gets sold there. But for every good product there are loads of bad. What is so terrible about saying that? Sorry, I just don't get why anyone would get upset about that opinion.

  17. Love your linky concept Brooklyn girl! And,as a reminder... It's your blog. Tell it like you see. So say I!

Here is my trick...and this is just about the only way I have found some great/fun things...when you find a seller you like...click on their favorites...then when you find another item up your alley...click on their favorites. You have a friend with impeccable taste who happens to sell amazing jewels on etsy (anneliese) see who she adores these days.

looking for large wooden buttons because you had a dream that is JUST what your homemade shower curtain needs (yep)...do a search...voila. might show up (The hicKory tree). Or a specific pillow made with boiled wool and a cross (enhabiten). Amazing dot bowls (jdwolfepottery). beautiful baby blankets (oneluckybaby)...

Hmmm. Apparently it works too well for me.

    sigh.

  18. Thanks Linda - thats a great trick! I will definitely use that in my searches.

  19. Stef, You are entirely owed your opinion. That's the great thing about blogs we all have different tastes and opinions and that's what makes blogging fun. I love your style and your blog and you are free to voice any and all opinions you have. I think we all agree on the massive amount of listings you have to sift through in a general search and I don't think anyone including Stefanie is doubting how many immensely talented people there are on Etsy. I added Le Papier Studios for their adorable silhouettes.

  20. I completely agree with you when it comes to Etsy. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend. I would like to invite you to come and participate in my giveaway.

  21. LOve the links, I am bookmarking the page for future shopping sprees!

  22. Etsy is too arts and craft for me. Then again, I have to actually see and feel what I buy.

  23. I don't think you are saying that etsy is bad at all. I like think we can use blogs as a forum to discuss the merits of etsy or anything else for that matter. I wasn't offended by your previous post. (I hope my personal comments didn't come off as harsh. I just wanted to give my 2 cents to balance out some of the other comments)

Love your blog and I come here often.

  24. This is a wonderful list. I have found a few new sellers (new to me at least) already going through this list.

  25. I feel like I just got Cliffs Notes for Etsy. Thank you so much for this. When I go there, I get overwhelmed by all the stuff that comes up in a search and I usually flee quickly.

I do have that fun "I love you blogs and coffee" poster from Made By Girl. :)

I have seen several good shops on Etsy. However, I have read the reviews of others that are not quite as straight foward. I learned to search just for what I want, using key words and shop with the sellers, I know or recommended by friends. One shop I like is duchessdesigns, great jewelry and will ship immediately. I bought from her at local shows and markets here in Ga. Hope this helps.

  27. I love Etsy. I've found some great jewelry for myself and to give as gifts. Also prints for my childrens rooms. I always search for items though - such as 'rose gold ring'...its thins the items well.
