After the walls were painted and the floors redone, it was time to get some furniture.
I wish I could say that we got that accomplished over a long weekend but in reality it was almost a full year before we had anything to sit on.
I always wanted a white couch so here was my chance. I liked the sleekness of the color with the casualness of the slipcover style. Its been 4 years and still no stains (knock wood!). On the negative side, Im not loving how slouchy the couch looks as time goes on but so be it. At this point there was still plenty to do in this room - like art on the walls, window treatments (still yet to be done 5 years on!), etc but it was coming together.
As that was getting sorted we had to figure out the bedroom. Not wanting to blow a lot in here, off to Ikea we went.
Once again, not at all finished but immediately more cozy.
So at this point we had the basics. It was now time for some more finishing touches. I've made some progress (I'll share that in a future post) but now that I think on it, its been forever and I've done so little. Its just so hard to be focused once we're down there - its like my heart rate slows the minute I cross the threshold. And those little and big undone things still drive me crazy so its not like I don't notice them - I just can't seem to cross them off the to-do list. Must.light.fire.under.me.
Yay! I love white too and one day, perhaps, if i ever own a beach house, i WILL get my white furniture!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing this all come together!
I heart white sofas~ I just wish I had a beach house to put them in! I think that it's okay that they slouch given the location. You want some thing that looks and feels comfy when you get a away. It works for now;o)
ReplyDeleteI love white couches, but fear the kid and dog traffic would destory them. I like what you're doing! And the journey's half the fun, no rush.
ReplyDeleteKaren: No kids and no dogs make it a lot easier for me. If we had any incontinent living things in our house, this couch would be a non-starter.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love the beach feel to the rooms! I have a sofa like yours, white-ish now. lol. It's surviving a hubby and a kid so.. you have hope! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the white couch, especially w/the blue pillows. Also love your beach sign- mind sharing where you got it?
ReplyDeletei love that coffee table!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I imagine this is a place to relax and not work, so it is probably hard to move a much of a pace on projects here! Regardless, it looks like an inviting spot to retreat to...

I don't blame you for not wanting to think about anything while you are there. You are so busy in your daily life that I know you are more relaxed when you get there. It is looking good so far.
ReplyDeleteI like all the light furniture. And, beach houses have such opportunities for great accessories! (No fake fish, of course.)
ReplyDeleteIt's looking really great. We could never have a white sofa either since we have dogs, but I always think they look so great. If you can get away with it, it's always a good choice :)
ReplyDeleteLove the white couches - I've thought about going with white, but the thought of little paws jumping up on the couch after a walk in the rain have stopped me...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this journey! Such fun!
I love how clean and crisp everything is. These rooms would be beautiful with some of your black & white photography blown up and matted.
ReplyDeleteOoooooo...love love love what you have done! So serene. Looks fantastic--great job!!
ReplyDeleteI really like that bedding!
ReplyDeleteRecently I gave my daughter my white coach. I figured she needed furniture and I was tired of it. White at times might be hard to keep clean but it depends on your lifestyle.
ReplyDeletePerfect design foa a beach house!
ReplyDeleteIt's all coming together perfectly! Love the bedspread!
ReplyDeleteTake care
Kristin
It's really beautiful! I have a nearly white sofa and luckily there's never been a stain I can't get out. Still, it sometimes bothers me when my guests say, "Oh! I can't sit down here; I'm sure I'll spill something!" Your design seems much more inviting, though.
ReplyDeleteI love the coffee table! We have white furniture too. I've been having the hardest time finding art work for above the sofa.
ReplyDeleteLove the white slipcovered sofas - it definitely gives that beachy feel. It's nice to have a place to go to where you immediately feel that much more relaxed!
ReplyDeleteLove the fresh mix of blue and white - perfectly beachy :)
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so good! :)
ReplyDeleteChateau 809: Sorry, I don't remember where we bought that. They are pretty ubiquitous in beach towns like this one. For some reason I think I got it at the local hardware store in town but I'm not 100% certain.
ReplyDeleteAfter 6 years of working for Ethan Allen I recognize that coffee table. => I agree with Aura's comment--it needs some of your photography. And maybe a basket under the coffee table and a large hurricane on top.
ReplyDeleteI love the color pallate. It's so fresh and beachy/comfy. I can imagine how hard it would be to do anything when you are relaxing out there.
ReplyDeleteAura and Christine: Thanks. Ive done a few more things to the place since this photograph was taken like creating some artwork for over the couch and filling out a little more of the rest of the room. I just have to photograph it to post. But it still needs work even now.
ReplyDeleteLove the fresh beachy feel....looks so relaxing! I too have white furniture and I have 2 kids, but they are so easy to wash the slip covers and they look great! You are so lucky to have a get-away like that!!!! So jealous!!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great start. Some wall art and great accessories and it will be fabulous I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI LOOOVVEEE the white couches and no better place for them than a beach house! It looks so cozy, relaxing and inviting!
ReplyDeleteLooks GREAT! LOVE THE ROOMS!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great!! I love the slipcovers!! Ikea is a great place to find good, functional furniture! The room looks wonderful! Great job!
