In case you were looking for me last night, I was at my very first blog networking shindig.
I wasn't actually invited - it was Tanya from Save the Date for Cupcakes that let me know about it and helped me get on the list. You might have guessed by the fact this was my very first one that I'm not really a networker type of person. But this was MARTHA so how could I not??
Thankfully the Martha crew decided to move it from the roofdeck to an interior room because it was so damn hot out yesterday. Thank you!
I was lazy so I only took a few snaps with a tiny PS camera. I didn't take many shots because it was difficult to get a good shot with so many people there but the event was well styled. Great passed food and fun signature cocktails. I'll be stealing a few ideas.
We got to see some famous faces including Martha herself, her daughter Alexis, Kevin Sharkey and Darcy Miller. But the highlight of the night was meeting some other bloggers like Tanya, Camila of High Heeled Foot in the Door, Kelly of High Street Market, Kirsty of Posh Pixels and others. I also very briefly got to say hi to Erica of Design Blahg and Jordan Ferney of Oh Happy Day. Not surpringly, everyone is super nice. Too bad it was so loud in there that I could barely hear what was being said and I also missed a few other people I would have loved to meet.
I sort of expected way more home design bloggers based on the Kevin Sharkey appearance but there weren't that many of us (at least that I could find) but the night was fun in any event.
It was great to meet some familiar and new faces while visiting the mecca of Martha-ness. I definitely felt a bit out of place not being a smoozer and not having blog business cards (I never thought I'd would need them!) but there is a first time for everything, right?
Were any of you there? How do you feel about blog networking events?
I don't have anything nearly as glam planned for the weekend. Just trying to stay cool and relax. Have a great one.
I wish I could have been there! Marthas my aunt, you know?! Anywho...I feel you on not being a networker type of person. But then I realize, if I don't get out, I'll miss out on a lot of fun things and on meeting people like you! So glad you went and that heat....yeah;-)
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way the first time I went to a blogger event. (I think I was the only one without a card!) Now that I've gone to a couple more, it doesn't freak me out as much. It looks like it was a pretty stylish event but I would expect no less from Martha!
ReplyDeleteReally awesome! I would of tried to get in too....Martha is amazing and so talented! Thanks for the pics you did get, love the cookie tier.
ReplyDeleteCindy
So glad you made it out;o) Did you grab your Swag? They gave out two in the end with the latest issues of the mags and lots of goddies...
ReplyDeleteWe have to meet up again!
That's it! I'm going next year!! And I will get blog business cards made up ahead of time!
ReplyDeleteSounds like such fun!!
ReplyDeletexx-Gina
I'll have to beg next year! Looks like a ball!
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons I love your blog is that you're NOT schmoozy. Blogs are so lovely *because* they are so normal. Just like popping next door for a cup of tea! xx
ReplyDeleteWow - looks like a fun event! I have neber been to one before and never would have thought about a blog business card.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have blog business cards with me either-- I felt so silly! You got some great pics :)
ReplyDeleteNever been, but I'm a total small-time blogger.
ReplyDeleteOMG, how frickin' exciting? I'm beyond green with jealousy. Blog business cards? Fooey... it would have been impossible to snap me out of my dazed, permanant smile stamped face to even remember if I in fact had any such thing to give someone. Those displays of sugary goodness would have caught my attention though ;)
ReplyDeleteThose moon pies made me drool..
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I would have been so nervous! I never would have thought about blog business cards either! That Oreo tower is so cool. I don't think I would have had the guts to take one for fear of the entire thing crumbling! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so fun that you were able to get to go! It is hard to go to those types of events, when you aren't used to networking all the time, or having that perfect elevator speech prepared! Looks like you did snap some good pictures and it is such a unique and creative way to get a "new industry" together.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! What a cool event and looks fabulously styled. Not big on networking, but this would've been well worth doing it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great event -- I'm so doing the Oreo Cookies on a cake plate for my next get together!! :)Noe I wanna make Smores tonight, lol
ReplyDeletei would have PLOTZED if i saw martha in person. she is like a goddess. albeit a kind of surly one.
ReplyDeletei feel you on the schmoozy part. i'm terrible at networking. but if e'er there was a place to get better at it, i'd think BlogHer would be it!
Very cool and I bet they were excited to meet you! I just got my blog biz cards in the mail and love them. Now I feel sorta cool that I am in the know, LOL. Totally by accident I'm sure! I think it would be cool to meet Martha but I would rather meet you! Your blog and travel photos would give us so much to talk about! *hugs from Conroe, TX!
ReplyDeleteYou are SO lucky.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I would love to have been on that guest list. And I would have come down from Boston just to see Martha. I only went to one blogger networking event and it didn't thrill me. Everyone had a parenting blog except me.
ReplyDeleteI do have blog business cards and they come in handy when I find a great shop and I want to take photos. If I give them a blog card they usually let me take photos freely.
great recap!! glad you had a lovely time!!!!
ReplyDeleteNever been - but i sure would have loved to have been at this one! I adore Martha so I'm sure it was fun to see the styling and ideas they had there. I certainly don't have blog cards - but I'm sure it's a great way to meet other bloggers whose lives you read about online all the time - plus I'm sure in this world of design blogging each one will be inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI just came back from the BlogHer conference. I couldn't find a home design blogger or anybody interested in design or DIY. The few I did find were knitters or scrapbookers. I had a good time, but it would have been nice to chat face to face with some kindred spirits.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to hear that you had an enjoyable time at such a "cool" event even without blog cards to hand out.
My best- Diane
*mecca of marthaness* is a great term! looks like it was fun....and who wouldn't be just a tad star-struck with martha?
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! Yet another reason I need to move to NYC!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great party.
ReplyDeletelooks like fun! so glad you got out and represented (brooklyn in the house!)!
ReplyDeletei too would never think of going to something like this (being a new blogger myself) but it was probably great to meet some like minded fabulous people.
absolutely love your blog...what an inspiration (especially your kitchen which is always in my kitchen inspiration folder of images)!
