This is the kind of idea that you smack your head with your hand and wonder why haven't you thought of it already?? She used a little brain power to recreate a interesting design element without spending a lot of money or getting a single drop of paint on her hands. Inpired by this photograph from Country Living...
Camila got some of this....
And much measuring later, it looks like this:
I love how it looks in black + white but you could mix this up in a lot of ways with different colors, widths and spacing. I think this would look pretty cool on a slant too.
She even tested it to make sure it won't ruin the paint underneath. Perfect for renters (or those afraid of stripe commitment!). I am impressed. Check out all the details at her blog.
Has anyone done a similar project but with different results?

*When I say steal, I really mean borrow nicely and give proper credit!
**If you have an idea/tutorial you would like me to consider for a feature, email me. I'd love to see!
People find the neatest ideas! Although not for me, it is cool.

ReplyDeleteCamila always has the best and most creative DIY ideas!! She knows how to do style on the cheap for sure.
ReplyDeleteCool idea~ and easy to remove later!
ReplyDeleteCamila always has great ideas on the frugal side. I love your "steal" idea Fridays.
ReplyDeleteThat is brilliant, I love seeing ingenious ways to recreate looks in a less permanent way, providing options for renters! Janell
ReplyDeleteI know right, Camila strikes again!!
ReplyDeleteI just wonder if the tape stays up or starts falling...electrical tape isn't the stickiest.
This is a very cool idea! Even a great way to try it out on a section of the room before you commit.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
So happy you guys like it. This brand of tape is super sticky. It's special for all weather so when the heat goes on in their apt it shouldn't fall down.
ReplyDeleteI will keep you guys posted on how it lasts.
Looks great! Yes, keep us posted on if it lasts. I have had clients have trouble with those wall decals peeling. Perhaps this tape is sticker.

This looks great; I love the stripes! I also think it is great when people can find a way around the problems that come along with rentals {paint, bad lighting, hardware, etc}.

I love the idea too. I'd love to see it with thinner tape so it has more of a pin stripe feel to it.
ReplyDeleteI have a girlfriend who was just complaining to me about the white walls in her apartment. I'll have to tell her about this nifty trick! I never would have thought of that.
ReplyDeleteThat is real commitment - I know I'd want to cheat - stripes get wider as I got bored...
ReplyDeleteI am so enjoying this feature!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog! look forward to following :)
ReplyDeleteHow cool is this!!! What a super creative use for electrical tape.
