I don't know about you but after seeing Megan's amazing kitchen over at Honey We're Home, I wanted to snoop around a bit. Good thing for me, she agreed to play along in letting us see whats inside her drawers. No shock, Megan's self defined 'mess' is not really a mess at all but at least we can say we saw whatever dark side there was to this beautiful space.
Aye, aye, aye! For me, a lover of all things organized, Stefanie asking me to show my junk drawers feels sorta like the equivalent of being caught with my pants down! I kid! But, this was just the nudge I needed to clear out some drawers in the kitchen and get them in tip-top shape!
The drawer I immediately knew I wanted to tackle is our “large kitchen tools” drawer. It’s one of the most frequently used, and while pretty much everything in it belonged in there, it was all a jumbled mess.
See?
A quick trip to the Container Store, also known as Mecca for those-who-love-to-organize, and I bought a few clear containers to store my tools. I measured the drawer first to see what sizes I would need.
I started by taking everything out of the drawer and grouping similar tools together.
Look what I even found- the cover to my meat thermometer! I thought it got thrown out when we moved! (isn’t finding things a great reward for getting organized?)
Our wooden spoons, spatulas, whisks, and tongs go in these silver containers that I got at Bed, Bath, and Beyond - for easy access while cooking.
A few minutes later . . .
Ahh, feels so good to be able to see everything! But then I got inspired to organize a few more drawers!
Thank you Stefanie for the little nudge! I’m pulling my pants back up now;)

GORGEOUS kitchen Megan! sigh.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Tasks like these snowball, don't they? You think, "well, if I'm doing the one drawer, I might as well do this one and this one and this one and paint the kitchen".
ReplyDeleteHa! She is sooo funny!! Love it Megan! It is very easy to get on a roll once you get started.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I think a trip to the container store is in my future today!
ReplyDeleteI am so in love with that kitchen- gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMegan, You have one of the most beautiful kitchens in blog world! I love everything...including your organized drawers.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
That is a great kitchen! I always wonder how these junk drawers get to be. I recently moved into a new apartment and my goal was to avoid the junk drawer. Now, 4 months in, I have a few junk drawers. You've inspired me to organize them once again, you did a great job and I can't wait to see what I can do with mine!
ReplyDeleteI want to be as messy as she is. I have a long way to go to reach the ordered chaos of her before pictures. If you saw my junk drawer you would weep with me and then send me to therapy. I love this series.
ReplyDeleteBrava! Lovely kitchen to organize in!!
ReplyDeleteMegan's home is freakin gorgeous! I love that she did a full drawer makeover. I used similar drawer dividers that I found at WalMart...

They are a life/finger saver!
I was envious of Megan's kitchen and now I'm envious of Megan's kitchen organization. ;) Love the dedicated baking drawer. That's a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new reader to your blog so this is my first peak at your kitchen. WOW, it is absolutely stunning. The drawers look wonderful although I don't think they were bad to begin with.
ReplyDeleteI guess I should pay better attention. Megan's kitchen is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me play along Stefanie!
ReplyDeleteHaha, Megan, your "mess" looks suspiciously like what happens when I open my kitchen drawers and say "Wow, looks neat in there!" ;) Great job, it looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMegan, it looks fantastic!!! I really need to do this in my kitchen. Something else to add to the to do list!
ReplyDeletereally? her 'before' is better than my 'after's' anytime!!! megan is amazing..and her kitchen divine!
ReplyDeleteThose before photos make me giggle!!! I adore you Megan . . even if your before shots look like that!
ReplyDeleteI just love her! But wait, some of my "organized" drawers looks like her before, except worse:)

I did the same thing last weekend. I purchase "InterDesign" clear drawer organizers at The Container Store last Friday (exactly like the ones you pictured in your baby drawer and junk drawer photos). They had these in 2 and 3 inch deep versions. I bought several different sizes and shapes of the 3 inch deep organizers. Can I say...I LOVE THEM!!! I find myself wandering around the house randomly opening drawers just to feel the rush of happiness at my beautifully organized drawers. I even impressed my husband with this project.
ReplyDeleteOh, makes me want to go organize something right now! Great job and love the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteMEGAN!
ReplyDeleteJust here to tease you a little bit.
It makes it hard for me to breathe when I see "baby" drawers and drawers with permanent black Sharpies coexisting in the same kitchen. MOVE THE SHARPIES HIGHER UP before the baby is doing a little redecorating of their own. It is NOT the kind of "decorating" you like to blog about.
Megan's kitchen (and organization) are amazing! I love those smaller bins from Container Store!
ReplyDeleteLoving your blog! I just started my own blog with my fantastic crystal and shell bottle art. I'd love it if you could stop by, and if you like them, follow! :) Off to read more! xoxo, The Crystal Crate.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a baby yet, but I'm keeping that method of organizing the sippy cups and spoons in mind for the future! (I can see it being especially helpful for baby-sitters and daddies.)
ReplyDeletelove this post! the new year has given me the spring cleaning bug! i love the idea for a baby drawer...mine are all spread out!
ReplyDeleteA kitchen full of drawers is the most amazing layout, I think. I use drawers so much more than cabinets because I can pull a drawer out and see all the contents at once. These organizers from The Container Store are great... I wish I had TCS near me!
