One of the questions I get asked a lot is how I keep my house organized. This question is usually followed by lots of belly laughs on my part. Why? Because I am one of the most disorganized people you can imagine. I never know where I put anything and spend loads of time looking for items I just had in my hand. In other words, I keep my messy side hidden.
I always figured no one would want to see the inside of my drawers* and cupboards because it ain't pretty But then I had an idea. What if I came out of the closet on this issue and brought some of my favorite and most stylish bloggers with me? Just a little peek at our secret shame that we hide away from our blog readers. I know I'm kind of curious at what other bloggers keep in their junk drawers so off I went recruiting.
Junk Drawer Overhaul is born. I'll kick it off with a reveal of my mess tommorrow followed by a series of seriously talented, fabulous bloggers who shared their messy (and in some cases, not so messy) little crannies.
Huge thanks Young House Love, Centsational Girl, House of Brinson, Honey We're Home, Stories of A2Z, So Haute, Simply Grove, Making it Lovely, Thrify Decor Chick and Tatertots & Jello for participating. And if you'd like to a junk overhaul, drop me a line or leave a link back to your blog in the comments.
*I plan on skipping all the dirty puns and doube entendres that the words 'junk' and 'drawers' conjure up in my own sick little mind but feel free to go hog wild at your keyboard.
Super fun! I love before and afters of a junk drawer!
ReplyDeleteI did mine in November under duress, but all was well in the end!

What a fun series - looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteMy rule is not to allow myself to have a junk drawer. I try to always put things away immediately, other wise they will pile up.
xx
oh I so need this! My junk drawer is BAD and my hallway closet is in some serious need of organizing. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
ReplyDeleteLove this- hubs just overhauled one of our junk drawers but oh, there are many. Will look forward to seeing the transformations!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! Can't wait to see what you guys show us!
ReplyDeleteI overhauled my two kitchen junk drawers back in the fall, but now they are on the slightly junky side again. How does that happen?!
ReplyDeleteI think your term of junk DRAWER is just adorable :) I cannot wait to see what you come up with, since your "secret shame" blogposts about your junk room completely inspired me to take mine on. Unfortunately it's only NOW that our massive 2-out-of-3 story renovation is almost complete to a point where I can finally clean out my 2 (not one, two) secret shame junk rooms... where everything has been stored for the last YEAR. I'd love to play along if you're interested, if for no other reason than to make everyone else feel better about their junk? hehe.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Idea!
ReplyDeleteHere is my 1st junk drawer overall but I have 2 more in our kitchen island to do!

I like to see that others are just as human as me ;) great series!
ReplyDeleteI think calling it a junk drawer is an invitation to throw random stuff in there and quickly shut it. The trick is to call it an office supplies drawer or a menu drawer or a tool drawer. I recently overhauled my kitchen tool drawer as part of my new year organizing kick. Can't wait to see everyone's solutions.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to have a junk cabinet? If so, I do! And we move in two weeks, so a major overhaul is necessary! I would love to participate!

I had junk drawers, but slowly I am getting everything organized! I fear my crafting supplies because it takes up a wall of cabinets. If you open a door, stuff falls out. Anyway, here's the link to my blog where I show how I've reorganized and decluttered many a junk area: www.momnonstop.com
ReplyDeleteAhhh...I seriously CANNOT wait for this! = ) Please make me feel better about my junk house. Haha. ; )
ReplyDeleteI am so disorganized that I could not possibly have a junk drawer. My head would explode.
ReplyDeleteInstead, I have a basement :)
We have a junk room. It is sometimes known as our guest bedroom. Or our laundry room. Or simply "in the back." Everything that has nowhere to go is put in this room. It's a sad place, to be sure, but I'd be lost without it.
ReplyDeleteoooo I'm super excited about this series!
ReplyDeleteHow odd! I just posted about my junk drawer turned homemade-junk/desk-storage-stool. Must be the season for the junk drawer to get organized! Looking forward to see what you and others have done with yours.

Looking forward to the series. It's always interesting to see the junk in people's drawers. I couldn't resist after your invitation...
ReplyDeleteI don't believe you have messy/junk anything in your place...guess I will have to keep reading to find out for sure! :P
ReplyDeleteI'm so busy overhauling closets that I haven't had a chance to get to the junk drawer yet - http://ourfifthhouse.blogspot.com/2011/01/master-closet.html
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this series!
This sounds so fun! It's nice to know I am not the only one!
ReplyDeleteSounds fun! Bring on the overhauls!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog!! LOVE it! I am your newest follower.

ReplyDeleteWe just did our junk drawer this month, too!

I can't wait to read this series. My junk drawer is a sad, sad, sad state of affairs and I'm not sure I'm brave enough to show it to the world :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just the kick I needed to organize some of those hidden messy spaces!
ReplyDeleteYes! Can't wait! I see I'm not the only sadist opening up their messy-to-clean household drawers to the public eye.
ReplyDeleteHere's my bathroom drawer in a 15-min organizing dash (without spending any cash).

Looking forward to reading the rest of the series and seeing some inspiration for the rest of my drawers!
Love the idea of a junk drawer makeover series!! Who doesn't have at least ONE drawer in their house that needs a little help!!!

I LOVE this series you took on, in fact, it's pretty near and dear to my heart since I run an organizing blog and I am a tad crazed about the subject!
ReplyDeleteYou can check our my disastrous drawers gone pretty here if you would like: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2010/10/october-featured-space-kitchen_08.html
Thanks again for doing this!!
xoxo,
Jen
I really like clean sweep posts.
ReplyDeleteLast year I completed a "reduce clutter; create space" challenge, and this was one result:
http://megustaensalada.blogspot.com/2010/03/proud-moment-project-linen-closet.html
I got rid of my junk drawers completely. First, I sorted everything and discarded or gave away the stuff I didn't need or want anymore. Then, I bought a heavy-duty, clear vinyl, over-the-door shoe organizer and hung it inside the guest bedroom/art studio. Now, I can see all the batteries, light bulbs, pens, and miscellaneous small items nicely corralled and easily seen. I'm working on the pictures (my real camera died and my phone camera is not great) for my new blog, www.dailydesigndelights.com, which is set to launch in March, so can't send y'all to a picture of my wonderful hanging junk drawer. : D
