While out strolling yesterday, I did a double take when I spotted this portrait for sale at the local flea market. I couldn't resist it despite the price being a little bit more than I wanted to pay ($35). It has just the right mix of serious and spooky that I adore (you already know I love creepy).
That looks so much like my grandpa's school photo that my eyes got kind of wet and hot. I wasn't crying though, I swear! He grew up in Brooklyn and I wouldn't be surprised if it is the same picture, and belonged to someone else in the photograph.
ReplyDeleteThis photo was taken in New Haven, not Brooklyn about 90 years ago. I don't know anything else than that though.
DeleteAlright so it just looks like his picture :)
DeleteDo you have any idea who they are & where it is? What a lovely find :)
ReplyDeleteNo details other than its from the 1920s (or there abouts) and was taken in New Haven. Not really familiar with Yale buildings but maybe its one of theirs?
DeleteThis is such a cool find!
ReplyDeleteMy husbands great aunt passed away a few years ago and we helped clean out the house. She was married two months before her husband left for the war and he didn't return. The house was so full of treasures like his letters and mementos. Nobody wanted anything! Among many other things, we grabbed a photo like this of him with his champion University Rugby team. I am so glad we did. It looks so great down our long hallway.
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy. The idea of going through someone's treasures like that totally appeals. I would love it.
DeleteVery cool find!
ReplyDeleteI have tons of old pics I inherited & so many of them just make me laugh. One of my favorites is my great grandfather & his siblings sitting in straight back chairs all in a row, outside in an open yard I guess. It's winter & in the background is a huge oak tree with no leaves on it. The men have full white beards & mustaches & the one lady is all in black. they look like something from harry Potter or the Dead poets society - very stern looking.
ReplyDeleteAround here, $35 for a photo like that is a steal! We have a similar long marching band photo over our bed. I love how it captures a certain time: young men with the same stoic expression, all of them strangers to me.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this!
