Finshed for Now: The Man Room

It seems like ages ago we started working getting the cellar into a reasonably comfortable man room but I'm finally calling it finished.  There are a few more things I'd like to change and Mr. Limestone seems to think the TV is not large enough (this is a perpetual debate in our house) but I'm happy with how its looking today.

BeforeandAfterManROom
This space is mostly for the Mr. so he picked the finishes (specifically the paint color and floor tiles) and I did the rest with his approval. Obviously its a totally different style than the rest of the house but I like to think it reflects my husbands sense of adventure. Despite there being some pretty big limitations (those poles!  no natural light! lots of doors!), it still feels open and has a good flow.

Added bonus: Its just about the only room in the house where there are no toys or other evidence of living with a 1 year old. Only time will tell how long that with last.

  2. Wow!! Fantastic! I don't think I could have imagined it to be so beautiful, after looking at the before photos. Wonderful vision, and a stunning man room!

  3. Man Room? -Do you mean a Man Cave?
I'm not that much of an expert since there is no (shackled) Mr. PinkP. in my life(bedroom), but... shouldn't a man cave be a room designed by men only & be a bit more... (I don't know)!? Oh, and yep the TV could be bigger. But don't tell him, no need to feed the monster.

Besides that, OYFG! I love the Globe & Map... gorgeous! :)

    1. It's most definitely a cave but if I left Mr. L to his own devices, he still wouldn't even have a couch. Trust, this is much more manly than I would have done if not for his input.

  4. Wow, it looks great! I too think the TV is too small but I've also fought the fight with my husband and lost. Now that we have a bigger TV I must admit he was right. Not that I would tell him though. ;)

    1. Hey - don't tell him that!

All joking aside, we will eventually get a bigger tv for him (even though this one seems perfectly fine to me) . I had been waiting to hang the artwork while he was thinking over brands and models. Two years later, we are still waiting so I figure I might as well just do what I can now and I can rearrange when he decides.

    2. Sorry, but he's right! You need a bigger tv!!

  5. Recently we just completed my husband's Man Room (I refuse to call it a cave as considering the expense it's definitely a room and not a cave). Well done on all of it but I have to side with Mr. L. on a bigger TV.

    1. No. It was one of the big selling points of the house when we bought it. It was dry as a bone so none of that dank/mustiness of many basements.

  12. My hubs has a 55inch tv in his mancave that only seats 2 people and he still says it isn't big enough! They're never quite satisfied when it comes to their TVs.

  14. Is the flooring tile, not wood? It looks so nice.

    1. Yes, its tile - selected entirely by Mr. L. I didn't like it then and I still don't like it now but it does the job. I was very happy to cover it up with a rug :)

    1. Thanks. I got them from an ebay seller (noah image) a few years ago when the prices were very cheap. The prices have definitely gone up in the past few years but still pretty reasonable. http://stores.ebay.com/Noah-Images/Vintage-Posters-/_i.html?_fsub=547661012&_sid=742607152&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

  18. OMG! It is gorgeous like EVERYTHING you do!!!! I love it! Where did the sign come from...the one that says ________ days without lost time? Love that! And if not a bigger TV, how about multiple TVs so he can watch a few games at a time? (sorry) :-)

    1. Ok, you have found the one thing that might be more hideous than an oversized tv: multiple tvs!

You realize he reads this blog right? Don't give him any ideas! :)

    2. Oh and the sign is vintage. I purchased it at Brimfield: http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/2011/09/brimfield-flea-goodies.html

  22. I love the rug? Can we have more details on it, please? :)

    1. The rug is NuLoom Chevron in gray - which looks more blue than gray but I like it a lot. I first saw it on Rugs USA but an eagle eye reader suggested I check out the same rug at Overstock which had it $100 cheaper. I just checked today and RugsUSA has it $100 cheaper than Overstock. So it pays to price compare.

  24. Love the space...as I love everything you do. I keep imagining we will bump into each other next time I am in NYC (it will be in March by the way) and we will be instant best friends. :) On a less stalkerish side note, I am in the market for a good sectional. What is your opinion on the quality of yours? Keep in mind I have a 4.5 and almost 2 year old little boy so it will take A LOT of abuse!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks Julia. With as many people as we have, I don't think a bump in will be likely (I dont even bump into people I know!).

We purchased a sectional from Jennifer Convertibles primarily because their delivery service would take the couch apart so it could be brought into the tight squeeze hallway door that leads to our basement. As a result, our options were pretty limited. If I had more options, I would have gotten something a little more structured (I dont like the loose pillows on the back). That said, its held up perfectly fine. The material is a microfiber that seems to attract plenty of cat hair but is easy to clean. And the price was reasonable. So overall I would give it a good review but would suggest a couch with more structured back cushions since I imagine those would get ruined fast with 2 boys. Hope that helps!

  26. Hi! I was just wondering how tall your ceilings were! We have 6 1/2 foot ceilings in our basement (with some lower pipes we're getting rid of, hopefully) so I'm just trying to imagine our possibilities! :)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Liz - Our ceilings are 8 feet I believe. Certainly tall enough to walk around without any issues of hitting the ceiling. We had a low ceiling basement in our last house and had it dug out a few feet - it was a big project but made such a huge difference! Good luck!
